Rather than opting for anything resembling an accurate portrayal of Guantanamo's interrogation techniques or the general practices of the Bush administration, the film starts with a generally preposterous set-up and escalates the absurdity from there. Hurwitz and Schlossburg have admitted doing absolutely no research at all in order to prepare their story - which highlights such hot-button issues as torture, immigration, racism, and marijuana legislation - and Harold & Kumar 2 is all the better for it.

But with the authorities on their heels, the pair decides to head west to Texas, where Colton (Eric Winter), the fiancée of Kumar's ex-girlfriend Vanessa (Danneel Harris), will hopefully be able use his government connections to get them off the hook.

Harold and Kumar escape with the help of some Cuban illegals who take a boat into Miami. Harold attempts to explain the situation, but both are unceremoniously tossed in jail by an overzealous FBI agent named Ron Fox (Rob Corddry), who eventually sends them to Guantanamo to be interrogated. Unfortunately, Kumar's marijuana addiction gets the best of him during their flight and he sneaks off to get high in the lavatory, only to have his self-made smokeless bong be mistaken for a bomb.

Back from the first film are Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn), who have decided to follow Harold's dream girl Maria (Paula Garces) to Amsterdam.
